National Cement Company of Alabama, Inc. has been producing cement in St. Clair County, Alabama for over 100 years. Cement operations began in July 1910 at the current plant site in Ragland, Alabama. The company was purchased by the Vicat Group of France in 1974. The plant ships manufactured cement products via truck and rail to a diverse customer base across Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi and Florida. We maintain distribution facilities in Georgia and South Carolina, and our territory managers are strategically located throughout the southeastern states to ensure prompt customer service and delivery of our products.

Our business objective is to offer the highest quality cement at the best possible price while maintaining our core corporate values of integrity, quality, and customer service and loyalty. As a corporate citizen in the state where many of our employees also live, we strive to be environmentally responsible in the operation of our facilities. In addition to manufacturing cement, National Cement of Alabama's ready-mix subsidiaries (Kirkpatrick and Walker Concrete) serve the Southeast region's needs for high-quality residential and commercial concrete products from their numerous batch plants which cover the diverse markets of Alabama and Georgia.


Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Responsible to analyze, troubleshoot and improve cement manufacturing processes in an effort to sustain and improve equipment performance and product quality.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Track, collect data, analyses and recommend operational/control changes as needed to obtain process efficiency (power and fuel consumption);

  • Work closely with the Production Manager to ensure maximum process equipment capacity usage through continuous monitoring and improvement of process control parameters;

  • Develop operating procedures, process control plans and process flow-sheets;

  • Interact with quality and environmental groups; review quality and environmental data to correlate with process parameters using statistical analysis tools;

  • Develop process targets to enable optimization of plant equipment. Ensure the safety of equipment and plant personnel;

  • Interact with plant personnel in order to provide technical expertise, process assistance, share process knowledge and respond to needs of process improvement through regular plant visits and process evaluation;

  • Create/document standard operating procedures (SOP) for plant personnel and standardize all procedures;

  • Interact with head office technical specialist in France. Might be asked to travel to France on occasion.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.Eng, Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical  Engineering

  • 3-5 yrs experience in heavy industry

  • Strong potential for advancement in other managerial positions

  • Willing to relocate

  • Spoken languages: English and French

  • Effective communication skills to influence all levels of personnel and to create change

  • Demonstrated leadership ability to influence safety practices and initiatives

  • Ability to work as a team member with strong time management and record keeping skills

  • Good written skills and experience drafting policies/procedures and training plans

  • Good computer, report generation and data/research collection skills
